Indian Gimbal Head

Just got delivery of the Indian version of the Wemberley or Jobo
designed gimbal tripod heads. My initial impression was great service
quick delivery and very robust if not well finished. It was very well
packed, clear instructions and came with extra screws. I will however
endeavour to purchase quality stainless steel equivalents locally as the
screws are the onle thing between your lens and disaster if one gives
way. The reports thus far have indicated that some photogs who purchased
the item had screws break on them. I think i will play it safe.
It seems to work smoothly and fixes the lens in place securely qith a solid feel to the whole setup. I quickly mounted my 120-300 F/2.8 Sigma and 1.4 teleconverter to my D300 and I was quite impressed with the movement characteristics of the camera on the gimbal head. The controls are easily manipulated and quite responsive. Generally, without a field trial yet, I think the head is great value for the money.
Update 21/12/2011:
Have used the Indian gimbal head for a couple of years now. Have found it to be reliable, rather heavy though. Not suitable for a lighter style tripod as head is far too top heavy. Movement and action is still quite good but beginning to show signs of wear and tear. Whilst still reasonably smooth the pivoting and swinging actions can be a little jerky from time to time.
Still my original opinion value for money still holds. I have recently sold my Sigma 120-300 and these proceeds have gone to help In the purchase of my new Nikon 200-400VR11 lens. I eagerly await its arrival sometime just after Christmas I hope. I am now looking at upgrading my Benro and Indian Gimbal head.
Cheers
Marco
